Weekly update

Another week has passed, they only seem to go by faster and faster. We did a lot of service this week it seemed like. We power washed a handicapped members boat that is also his home. And we did all of this is a really nasty storm. I was very cold, as long as you can stay dry here you will be fine but its a challenge to stay dry we joke that the driest part of our day is the shower. We also painted some ladies house, I had never met her but she randomly called us and asked if we would come paint her walls so we did. We showed up and to me it looked like a place that nobody should live, with tons of cats in it, like at least 30. I hadn't taken my allergy pill so I said a very faith filled prayer that I would be able to breath through my swollen air passages and went hard to work so we could get down and I could get some fresh air. I survived, we made it out after about an hour and a half just as my throat was squeezing shut. That was really an answer to my prayer. 

This week my most spiritual moment was last night. We have two new investigators, Thomas and Kiana. They invited us over for dinner (King Salmon) which was amazing if you were wondering. We had a great conversation, then Elder Meade and I taught them the plan of salvation and thomas just loved it. The spirit is always there for their lessons. We also invited Thomas to church, and he showed up and really enjoyed it. He says he felt like he learned more in that one Sunday than he has going to church his whole life. It really is a blessing the knowledge we have. Also on Thursday Bishop asked us four missionaries to speak in sacrament meeting. I talked on conversion and feel like i did a pretty good job but Elder Meade took the cake as the last one speaking on missionary work. He did a great job.

Well Zone Conference was great as usual. There were 12 missionaries
staying in the Juneau trailer so it was pretty wild, but it was fun
and we had some good discussion during the end of the night that was
helpful as a greenie, I hate being called a greenie, I'm not from
Colorado. The trainings were on how to work with members and
recognizing the spirit.  They were all very good, and I took a lot
from them. We flew home on Wednesday and my companion said he was sick
and called the mission home and they told him to go to sleep so we
didn't do anything Wednesday. Thursday was exchanges. Elder Brätt came
to my area and we had an amazing exchange. He said a lot of things
that I really needed to hear, that I had been worrying about and
praying about. He was an answer to all my prayers. I thought they
would be answered in Zone Conference but they weren't and I was pretty
disappointed but the Lord was just waiting for the right person to
deliver the message  I guess. It all culminated with one of the best
lessons of my mission with Kiana about the Law of Chastity. The spirit
did all of the teaching, it was great I don't remember anything I
said, but I remember what Elder Brätt said, it was very powerful, I
felt my testimony being strengthened during it. Sunday was also a
great day we were completely packed all day with lessons. We got two
new investigators, They mask and Kiana(a new Kiana) they both just
graduated and are very happy and open people. We taught them the
restoration, at the end of the lesson after I bore my testimony Thomas
told me I need to leave now and go preach to everyone on his street,
he felt the power of the spirit bearing testimony I am confident. It
made me feel pretty good but I know it wasn't me.  I was looking at
the calendar and it is likely I only have three more weeks in
Ketchikan. That was a really weird thought and I am not sure what to
think. I wouldn't mind staying another transfer if I can figure out
how to deal with Elder Meade but I guess I will see what I think when
we get closer to transfers. It's been raining a ton, but it's sunny
today so we will enjoy it. That's about all that happened worth
mentioning that happened this week. So until next time.

Zone Conference

Well this week is zone conference evidently, and so we are flying to
Juneau early this morning. It is the milk run flight sadly meaning we

have to stop in Petersburg, Wrangell, and Sitka and sit an hour at
each gate before we get to Juneau and it means we have P-day in
Juneau. One lady sitting near barfed each time we were descending to
land. I swear you can't make this stuff up. It was pretty turbulent
but not thaaaat bad. Anyway, I am super excited, hopefully they have a
fun p-day planned for us. I have my fingers crossed they will take us
to Mormon Hill, it is where they dedicated the mission and would be a
special experience. Zone Conferences are always the best, well the one
I have been to has been the best.

The time since Elder Mead has been here has been rough. We haven't
been teaching nearly as much and so I want to just go find with all of
our free time but he doesn't. And our obedience has decreased a lot.
It's hard because now I am the "tightwad that can't let anyone have
any fun", and I can't be mean because I have to love these Elders and
live with them. Elder Modlik and I had identical views on obedience so
it is a big change. I am struggling but figuring out how to deal with
this, but it will be good for me. I think we will be just fine after
zone conference. I am too proud, and don't take correction well, not
that I get mad for being corrected but more like "I should have known
better and been better". I hope I have the opportunity to talk to
President because I only like had 10 minutes when he came for
interviews. None of our lessons this week were that great but I do
enjoy teaching a lot more with Elder Meade and he is very organized,
and has helped me figure out the area book app a lot better than I
knew how to use it before. I don't have any pictures yet, hopefully I
will next week.

The weather has been pretty miserable. The first 5 days that Elder
Meade was here were perfect sunny all day, but now it's blowing up to
80 miles an hour and raining like crazy. We got 7 inches in just a few
hours a couple of nights ago. On Sunday when we were walking to an
appointment it was so windy it nearly took my suit coat off of me and
managed to snag my name tag, so now I am down to one name tag.
Hopefully my order for them will come in soon.

I was thinking about how much I have learned about the gospel and
Christ on my mission and I can't quite figure out why it took my until
I was on my mission to realize all of these simple and plain truths of
the Church even though I went and paid attention every Sunday. Either
way I am glad for the knowledge I have gained so far.

Well I guess I am going to play a game of basketball with a bunch of
polys...I think I am going to take it really easy.

Kam's new letter

Well I did in fact write an email last week but it evidently didn't send and then I updated to the new IOS and it deleted it so that email is gone forever. I guess the updates are(its kinda hard to remember what you know and what you don't) that Elder Modlik was transferred up to be the Zone Leader in Wasilla. He left on the ferry on Monday at around 3 but my new companion Elder Meade wasn't going to arrive until Wednesday at 1:30 so I spent a couple days with the other companionship we covered both of our areas. It was a fun experience. Right before Elder Modlik left there were lots of goodbyes to say so we spent a lot of time doing that in fact on on Friday night we had seven dinners planned for Sunday, we got out of most of them but ended up going to three, two with investigators at members houses who we taught and to end off the night a crab feast. That p-day was pretty slow we didn't do much but i guess an our of it was wasted writing an email that didn't send. We did take some pictures which I will send in another email. This p-day we are going to do some shopping and  then go  hike another waterfall I hope. I love the new tie, I got the package really quick because Elder Meade brought it down from Anchorage. So thank you a ton for that. When your tie is all that you can change about your appearance it becomes a big deal. Conference was great! I got to watch every secession at the church. there were tons of great talks and I am excited to start studying them. Elder Haynie of the Seventy who talked about the mud puddle I got to speak with quite a while at the MTC so I loved his talk. He is actually the one who shared the scripture on my plaque with me. It is still my favorite to the day.It was weird seeing him talking at conference it felt very similar to when we talked at the MTC.

My new companion is Elder Meade. He has been out 10 months or so and is from Willard, Utah. He is quite the comedian, and is fearless. I am excited for this transfer. I think it will be a success. I am finally not the short companion! It feels really good. I am the tallest one in the apartment now by like at least three inches. Elder younger was like at least 6' 5" and Elder Modlik was almost 6'4" so now im back on top.

We had an awesome lesson with Kiana i think on Wednesday about fasting and tithing. My testimony of fasting has increased so much on my mission, the difference is obvious to me how much stronger you have the spirit. And it went over great. Elder Meade and I will probably have lots of finding to do this upcoming week so wish me luck. Thanks for your prayers and have a great week!
