Weekly

Some time has passed I can't quite tell how much but it is time to
email again. Last pday we had zone activity but our gym floor had
gotten refinished so we met up with Anchorage North and had combined
zone basketball. It was the most competitive basketball I've seen on
my mission, it was fun, and I was sore afterword. I got to see Elder
Modlik and talk to him. It's almost been a year since I've seen him.
It was good to talk to him. He was excited for me to be a zone leader
and back in the bowl. we went on exchanges on Tuesday through
Wednesday with the Meadow creek Elders. I went to meadow creek with
Elder cox the District leader. It was good to finally actually get to
do missionary work. We had one very good lesson, and we set up an
appointment to visit a lady who's husband isn't a member to do
service. The next day a few hours after we ended exchanges elder
Matice and I went back to meadow creek to do that service elder cox
and I had set up, We painted their ceiling and they made us burgers
and fries it was good. After the service we went to a ward bbq, there
was lots of people there I didn't know. I'm a little depressed I have
to get to know a whole new ward again, it's a lot of work and energy.
But I am meeting them fairly quickly. I've found that we are always
sooooo busy, and busy with stuff besides normal missionary work. I
guess it's technically missionary work, a thousand different meetings,
and trainings, and exchanges, and helping elders work out their
differences, and making sure the sisters are not messing everything
up, and getting reports from everyone and checking in on everyone and
checking iPads. It seems we are always so busy with just stuff. It's
frustrating not doing proselyting work, but now that I'm writing about
it, it is important and someone has to do it. You just don't get that
same joy from helping people I guess, so I've been struggling a lot
with that. We had a few member present lessons and cleaned up our area
book but it just seemed to be our spare time. My year mark was like
the worst day of my mission, I was just really depressed about doing
everything but proselyting and what not, but I got over it. And this
week we have to prep for mlc. Hopefully we will have more proselyting
opportunities. Earlier today we went salmon fishing on Eklutna Tail
race, I have no idea what I'm doing, it doesn't make sense, it's so
different, but we saw one king rise right when we got there, it was
huge, but nothing besides that so we bailed. Sorry I didn't take any
pictures this week, I will next week. I don't have much to say.

Bear Mountain and Happy Fathers day

My first week in Bear Mountain has been really quite awesome. It was
so busy at first because I got there Tuesday evening and we had to
have Zone Conference completely ready by Thursday evening. That didn't
give us much Time to do anything. We got the special musical number
figures out Wednesday night and finished our training Thursday night.
Preparing for zone conference in two days and receiving that
companionship revaluation was awesome, we really had to rely on the
spirit. But our training went extremely well, everybody loved it,
especially President Robinson, they always kept referring back to it,
it made me feel good. He is really happy with our companionship. It
was about the three little pigs and involved a leaf blower, but it was
very spiritual, and came out well.
I just already love the missionaries here so much and I want them to
be happy and successful! I think this is an awesome zone and we have
amazing missionaries here. I am excited to get to know them better,
and see how I can serve them. This week of course was dominated by
transferring and zone conference. However We did get some proselyting
done, and I met some of the members and our investigators and people
we are working with. It doesn't seem to be a very fast area right now,
not tons of work, lots of potentials but just a few investigators.
This seems to be a really cool ward, hopefully I get along with them
as well as the Kbeach members. And it's hard to get to know a whole
new ward again, it felt like I had barely just gotta to know my last
ward and they were the first ward I really felt like I knew, Ketchikan
and Tongan I never felt that way so hopefully this one is more like
Kbeach.
I am excited to be with Elder Matice too. It's weird serving with a
missionary who is going home though. I feel like I've followed him
around most of my mission, Ketchikan, Kbeach, and now Bear Mountain, I
finally caught him. So we know all of the same people and areas and
have lots in common with our missions. He is from Arizona, and is a
big baseball guy.  And he isn't too trunky yet but it will be an
interesting transfer.
It was way hot when I got here for a couple days like in the 70s maybe
even 80, I was dying, it seems the Wonderfull sunny days on 50 and 60
degrees on the peninsula are gone. And it's crazy because it is
beautiful here too. We are right in the mountains, big green ones, I'm
still waiting to see a less than spectacular view in Alaska, and there
aren't many mosquitoes here knock on wood. But basically our area is
kind of just like a mix between far away suburb of anchorage, and
small spread out rural town. It's in between Anchorage and Palmer, but
closer to Palmer I think. The town is called Chugiak, and it's
confusing because there is Chugach and Chugiak and they kind of sound
the same.
Last but not least Happy Father's Day! I love you Dad, and am excited
to see you and bring you back up here. At church there was lots of
talks about Father's Day and the primary children sang and it really
made me grateful for my dad and all he has done for me. And all the
other men in my life who have helped me and desired my success and
happiness. It is the role of the priesthood. I hope you all have a
Wonderfull week, especially my dad and you other fathers!

I got to get brunch with Elder Na'a and a bunch of other missionaries
when I made it to anchorage. I love these guys.

Transfers

My mission has been turned upside down. As you probably remember
transfer calls were on Friday. Elder Reynolds has already been here
for 6 months so he was leaving and because I am in an area that's
whole existence has been a training area I was training according to
all of the experience of missionaries. My transfer call was supposed
to be to train in Kbeach and be here until September and enjoy
training and being on the peninsula all summer with all the people
here and lots of work and just in paradise in all aspects. I couldn't
have dreamed it up any better. And I was so excited! It was perfect!
Well all that changed as we got our transfer calls. Elder Reynolds is
staying in Kbeach again much to his dismay, and I am getting
transferred to the Bear Mountain ward in Eagle River. I will be a Zone
Leader there, with Elder Matice who trained Elder Reynolds in Kbeach.
I've followed him around it seems my whole mission, I replaced him in
Ketchikan, and Kbeach, and now I'm going to Bear Mountain with him. I
think it is his last transfer, and a lot of people say he is a good
missionary. So I'm pretty excited.

A lot happened this week besides that though. I went on exchanges with
the Elder Bailey, the Sterling Zone Leader, and we had a great
exchange. I decided we would try something new so we walked the five
miles into Soldotna on a walking path. On our way, we found a very
elect man who is actually our neighbor in Kbeach. His name is Scott.
He asked us if he could have a Book of Mormon, and we gave him one and
exchanged information. And then he called us later that night and
asked if we could do some service for him in the morning which we did
and there he immediately asked if he could get a ride to church, which
we found him one. He came to church and really enjoyed it. He said he
almost got baptized in Hawaii and grew up in Southern Utah and Idaho.
But I left today at noon, for transfers so I don't know what will
happen with Scott. Later that exchange when we got to Soldotna we
OYMed on the Kenai River and handed out a Book of Mormon, but how cool
is it to be proselyting on the Kenai River!? It was pretty cool. A
real dream of mine. I am really going to miss this ward, and this
area, but most of all the people. They are my kind of people, and I
love them. I could really see myself living there, and there is so
much missionary work to do there, we just had to figure out the ward
there as it is new. There is a really solid foundation there though
now.

Then today we went to Seward, it's beautiful, really a cool place, it
was sunny so it was a good day, it rains a lot there. We stopped in
for a few hours and then drove the Seward Highway up to Anchorage wow
that's an awesome drive. But people go insanely fast, wow, I saw that
on the tv shows but it's so true. People were kite surf in the Cook
inlet, with huge white mountains and glaciers emptying into it, I wish
I had gotten a picture. Anyways here's some pictures from my
adventures. On to Eagle River.

Cole's day at the Temple June 11th

One step closer to send Cole to Detroit, he did great!  We are so blessed to have family and friends with us.  Thank you for your support.

It's June and week 50 I think

It was really a rather good week this week for Elder Reynolds and I.
We tracked a lot as usual, and has some success as usual, but the
highlight of the week was when a member had us over for dinner and to
teach his friend who is dating a less active lady in the Kenai ward.
The lesson went great, the best one I've ever had with elder Reynolds,
he was in the lesson the whole time, and the guy we were teaching
Mathew was interested. The spirit was very strong as we taught him
about the Restoration, especially as we testified of authority and the
priesthood. He accepted the challenge to read the Book of Mormon,
pray, and to prepare himself to be baptized. It was wonderful  to get
that experience with That family and Elder Reynolds. We are very
excited for Mathew, but he is going back to the slope today so we
won't see him for two weeks at least. Oh well, the Lords work won't be
frustrated. We just hope his girlfriend doesn't hold him back.

Another highlight was we had zonemeeting on Friday, do the Seward
elders and Homer elders came to Soldotna for that. It was good to see
them, Kodiak as usual is still stuck on the island so the skyped in,
they are on the iPad in the picture below but you can't really see
them. We go on exchanges this week with the zone leaders and then
Friday is transfer calls.

But I am doing pretty great, Elder Reynolds is doing pretty good but
he is so ready to leave this area, I keep telling him not to get to
excited or talk about it too much but to just finish strong and what
is the Lords will will happen. Then I noticed today he got his bags
and has just barely started packing, I'm worried he is going to jinx
us. We were also able to contact some of our potential investigators
this week that we had previously tracted into so hopefully that will
mean more people we can help bring closer to Christ. I love it here on
the Peninsula.

It's amazing to think that we have a direct line of authority going
back to Christ himself, we truly are his church and are his hands to
move this work forward. And all you have to do is invite people. I'd
encourage all of you to take one opportunity to invite someone to
learn more about the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ this week. There
are so many people who have never even been invited, and it's our job
to do it.

Weekly email

This week was a finding week in Kbeach. We tracted a lot, it really
wore out elder Reynolds he likes tracting but he can't walk very far
and gets tired really quick, but he's doing good. We placed eight
Books of Mormon last week, and had lots of good tracting conversations
and found people who are interested but now we are struggling to get
ahold of them for a return appointment. One of those happened when I
was on exchanges with Elder Anderson. We had an awesome exchange in
the Kbeach area, we spent a lot of time tracting way out in the bush
and we had tons of success. A funny story from that day. We walked to
one house and there were three men sitting outside drinking beer and
smoking shooting the breeze. We walked up and introduced ourselves and
started talking to the. They asked if we wanted a beer, we said we
couldn't drink that but we would drink a coke if they had one so they
went and got cokes for us and we drank it and talked to them. We
taught them about the word of wisdom, and then answered questions
about polygamy and Joseph Smith and what not. We introduced the Book
of Mormon to one of them and said we were giving it to him as a gift.
He accepted it and said he'd read it. Then he said he wanted to give
us a gift. He gave us a hug king crab, it was awesome. He was a way
cool and nice guy. Then A member called us on Saturday night and asked
if we could come to an appointment Sunday evening at their friends
house. We went and taught the restoration and answered some questions,
and invited them to read and pray, the usual and left. They seemed
interested to hear what we had to share but not in find in the truth
of it. Just interested to hear what we believe. Hopefully they can
recognize the spirit. We were greatful for that member for doing that
though, she is a missionary who had to come home early for medical
reasons and she is excited to do missionary work.  There are lots of
missionary opportunities here, I know, we just need to find them, and
we are out there a lot so we have faith the lord will lead us there.

Oh and one house we were tracting I got bit by a dog. Luckily my
reflexes kicked in and it only nicked my hand. I'm surprised it took
this long. Everyone has mean dogs here.

Interview Week

This week we had interviews with President Robinson and we also had
stake conference. Elder Johnson of the Seventy was there for stake
conference, and President and Sister Robinson stayed too. It was fun
to see The Robinsons, and talk to them for a few minutes. School got
out part way through the week so there are a lot more people out and
about and we had some cool finding experiences this week. One of them
we had tracked this street, and the houses are really spread out (we
already tracked all the houses somewhat close to each other) so we
only knock on like 15 houses in two miles because you have to walk
back to the truck, so it took us a long time and nobody was
interested. But as we were driving away down the dirt road we came
around the corner and there was a guy out walking. And we didn't have
time to slow down and we knew we had to talk to him, so we turned
around and talked to him, and he was really interested. He was a cool
guy he is a single young guy and a civil engineer. His name is Roy, I
had a lot in common for him. It was funny because we were tracting in
the afternoon and he said, I'm not even supposed to be here I'm
supposed to be at work right now but for some reason I felt like I
needed to stay home. And we got another referal, for a native lady,
she's fun to talk to but doesn't seem very interested. So we are still
trying to find more elect people, we've been finding a lot of people
recently but are still for some reason struggling to get teaching
appointments, I don't understand honestly.

On last pday we went to Homer, a lady in the Soldotna ward took a
suburban full of missionaries down there. It was a crazy trip, too
short, but the lady who took us was a very wealthy crazy lady who just
does what ever she wants and it made it a blast just spending time
with her. She about scared the Asian waitress to death when she pulled
a pink pistol out of her prada purse to pay. And she would just drive
and park where ever she wanted breaking ton of traffic rules. Anyway,
that was a fun trip. And homer is beautiful, I really liked homer a
lot.

Week 9 in Kbeach

Wow, we had an amazing week this week in the Kalifornski Beach area!
Actually the week went by very slowly,  and was a struggle but it
ended very well. We found two new investigators while tracting. On
Saturday during our district tract I was tracting with Elder Anderson,
in a very wealthy neighbor hood. We had knocked probably like 8 house
and only one was home out of them, but on the 9nth there was a guy
outside vacuuming his van.  We had a great conversation with him and
he told us about his faith and how he was led in by prayer and Christ
all his life and the stories he was telling we were like expecting him
to say he was Mormon, but he isn't. During the conversation we were
teaching him points and relating it to his life and we ended up
teaching the whole restoration. He accepted a Book of Mormon, and we
are going back in two weeks. That was a cool experience. His name is
Brett. His wife didn't seem as interested at the moment but we are
hopeful for him. Also on Sunday while tracting with Elder Reynolds,
every house we knocked on was a woman, and I had the prompting we
needed to talk to a man not a woman so we walked around until we saw a
guy standing outside his house and we talked to him. He invited us in
and we had a short introductory lesson with him. We introduced to Book
of Mormon and invited him to pray and read. He agreed to take the
lessons and read the Book of Mormon. So that was another miracle. And
even better a ward missionary has set up an appointment with us with
two different people to teach them at his house. The work has
skyrocketed in the past two days and it is very exciting but I am also
worried because our ward mission leader is leaving for 7 weeks. Right
when it is all coming together and he is an important part of it.
Besides that my companionship with Elder Reynolds is better than ever,
and always progressing. It is a wonderful area.
We tried to pull a girl stuck in a bog with a fourwheeler. I don't
know why she thought she could go through it, it was the size of a
lake, and she was stuck up to the seat. We had he put pine poles down
in the muck under the wheels and she was making slow progress with
that until another guy with a fourwheeler and a wench pulled her out.

The weather has been heavenly, 60s and 70s and sunny all day, and calm
or a slight breeze. On Friday it got to like 75 and I was melting. But
we are getting tan because we are outside a lot. And we are going to
Homer for pday today so hopefully that will be a fun adventure. Have a

Mothers Day

It was great to get to talk to my family for Mother's Day. I miss you
guys more now haha. And because of that I have less motivation to
write. This week was pretty good. It's all the same pretty much. We
tract and teach and less active hunt. We have a lot of miracles and
spiritual experiences and lots of grind. My studies this week have
been very good. I have studies some about opposition and a lot for our
investigator who wants to get baptized but her parents won't let her.
Trying to figure out what we need to say in order to help them realize
we are Christian and that there can be more than just the Bible. It's
a difficult task when they don't really care to know or learn. It's
disappointing how much people just don't care about anything but their
material objects and status.  I really just don't have much to say,
after talking to my family. And I am going fishing and it just got
sunny so....I will send a better email next week.

Just a thought. When was the last time you invited someone to church?
Make everyone's life easier and invite someone to church. All you have
to do is invite.

Transfer Calls

We got transfer calls, both of us are staying for 6 more weeks, every
one is shocked but me. Elder Reynolds is going to be here like a third
of his mission. And he hates the ward so it's going to be hard for
him. We are doing great though, he is still making really big strides
though we are always teaching more everywhere and finding new people.

Miracle for the week. On Saturday we tracked all day no breaks and it
was hard and exhausting and very cold and windy and miserable.  And we
didn't get one new person. And I met the most miserable annoying
little punk kid of my life. Anyway so we a have a rough day and are
pretty disappointed, and then at church some random guy showed up and
said he wanted to be taught! It was an answer to our faith. He came to
sacrament and class and we have an appointment with him on Tuesday. It
felt really good. His name is Troy and he is humble so we have high
hopes for him.

Also Elder Na'a is going to be a zone leader in Palmer, he was so
close to coming here! I'm excited for him, but wish he was coming
here. Not much changed in this zone One of the sisters is leaving and
we are getting a new ZL.

people we get to tract. It is a real trap. It messes with you so much.

10 Months(7)

Yesterday was my 10 month mark. The months go by fast now. Last pday
was halibut fishing. I caught a little ling Cod  but no halibut. It
was pretty fun, besides that we just hung out on the beach all day.
This week we got a lot of work done. We spent all of our evenings
tracting and didn't have very much success, one return appointment but
I enjoyed it. The houses are so spread out though that you don't
actually talk to many houses. We found lots of less actives we've
never heard of before and got their records here. We had a great
district meeting, very inspired, they always are but this one was
extra good. It's cool to be a part of that. I learned a ton, and
really felt like I could be successful with changes I am  to make.
Transfer calls are this week, I feel like they were just two weeks
ago.
We had six investigators at church! That was awesome, and very
exciting. We have only ever had two or three before so we are making
progress. And we had a cool lesson with a part member family last
night. They used to live and Cheyenne and Laramie, the kids in the
family are amazing. But the dad isn't a member. If those kids don't
convert him I don't know that he ever will. The twelve year old boy in
the family has reactivated all of them because he wanted the
priesthood and knew the church was true and now his siblings are
catching on fire too and hopefully they will get their dad. He is a
spiritual guy but has problems with organized religion. We also have a
lesson with Mackenzie tonight. She is already converted read the book
of Mormon and has her answer so we just kind of teach the lessons I
guess. Ive never experienced this before. And we met an awesome part
member family that has been under the radar for years on Monday. They
are from the front range and he's a chemical engineer.
It's starting to get slightly less muddy here now, I don't understand
how it is always muddy it hardly ever rains.
We need to figure out skyping home in a couple weeks.
Oh and this is the shack of the guy we found miraculously last week.
He's way off the grid haha.

Week 4 on the Peninsula

The weather up here, has been paradise, it's so calm, and sunny and
the perfect temperature almost 60. The sun is already staying up until
like 10:30 at night and coming up at 5:30 to 6 and we really aren't
close to summer yet. We had a few cool miracles this week, and a lot
of fruitless tracting and contacting. We had three investigators at
church though.

As for the miracles. On Thursday night we planned for Friday and
prayed and felt good about tracting in off a street all the way south
in our area....like 30 miles or more from where we live. We were going
to tract after dinner, and our dinner was even farther north and west
from were we live,  but we felt good about it. Anyway dinner ended up
going long because the husband was late from work, anyway it went late
and it was a log drive down there, and I was kind of slow to drive all
the way down and back because it would leave us like only an hour to
tract. Elder Reynolds said it was still right and I trusted him and we
went. As soon as we got there I knew we had to go down a certain side
street and tract. So we did, we had one good conversation, and then we
saw an old crippled guy trying to carry this heavy bag down the road.
I took his bag and we walked and talked with him. He needed to got a
few miles away and there was no way he was going to make it there
anytime soon. So we called a member to give him a ride. And helped him
out. He is a member but hasn't been to church in forever, and doesn't
know much but is really down on his and has been praying for help and
was praying help would come right before we got to him. It felt really
good to know the spirit guided us to help one of Gods children. We
taught him the first lesson yesterday and he is excited to learn and
is willing to do our commitments. But he needs a lot of help. That was
very cool, and a blessing. Also, we found someone who said we could
come back and teach him! It was amazing and a blessing, the last house
we knocked on...why does it always have to be the last house haha?
Anyway that's an update. I'm going halibut fishing off the shore
today, I probably won't catch anything but, it will be fun either way.
It's really big gear.

And all of a sudden there are caribou everywhere, they are small
little guys for how big their antlers get but it's cool to see them,
and the seagulls are back in town and loud.

weekly email

It's has been a very slow week. We taught more lessons than they have
here in a long time but it's still super slow. We are still trying to
find a lot of people on the ward list, but a lot of people come here
to hide out. We found a new investigator! She name is Tammy, she went
to the LDS Church when she was younger but never got baptized and goes
to a different church. We also got a Referal from the Kenai elders.
Which I am very excited about. Our dinner last night was a fun family,
and their son is trying to go to UW and their daughter is already
going there. It was super fun to talk about Laradise. They will love
it. And I guess Spencer Barnes knows a girl from this ward too.

We went on exchanges with the zone leaders and we taught the
restoration and had an awesome lesson and got a new
investigator...sadly it was in their area. This week I've had two of
the weirdest lessons of my mission. One lady was really into spiritual
mediums and dreams and stuff, and the other I don't even know how to
describe. Just out there.

Exciting news! I've already lost 20 pounds since I left the Tongan
ward, it's insane because all my companion can do is walk and it's
really hard to not eat a ton because I'm just used to it. And there
was a brown bear on our street last night...we didn't see it but our
neighbors told us about it. I'm going to get a fishing license today.
I love the people in the ward here, they are actually my kind of
people, but they all want to talk to much at dinners. And they all
took care of me for my birthday. Have a great week everyone.

communication to Mom

The members have been great and really nice to me. But yeah I wish I was in the Tongan ward. I got the package yes, I really enjoy it but what are you doing getting such expensive ties!? I've never bought ties that expensive in my life. Just like order ties off Amazon or something, I don't need spendy ties like that, I'm just going to probably stain them. But I am great full for them. Grandma sent me a bunch of freezer jam which is exciting. I think I am going to get an annual out of state license here, there is too much fishing. I lost my companion for a half hour yesterday at church, and then he was mad at me because the members like me better. He's is pretty bipolar sometimes, not crazy bipolar but it's evident. I really love being a district leader it's awesome....I don't know if I want to be a a zone leader though, the whole mission just call them the secret combination, it's defiantly a good ole boys club but there is nothing you can do about it. Yeah I will tell you more then. I need you to have Lexi write me or give me her email. She is at Grandmas right now if you call. Thanks for everything. Love you.

I think they will send him to Anchorage because his back is so bad. He needs a new area too, so he can make changes if he wants too. If the were really what they say they are id almost have you return them and buy cheaper ones. But I like them, so your choice. I should have had you get a fishing license for my birthday. I'm just going to buy it so I can go fishing here. It's too much, I just hope it doesn't ruin fishing for me.

Ok, I will use my debit card.  Lexi emailed me just right now. Yeah I just have to protect my jam now. 

Yeah the only apartment with more than 2 is Ketchikan. But we have wifi so the Kenai elders come email here. She's alright. Sounds busy.

K-Beach

Well I guess I should email everyone. I finally made it too Alaska!
There are tons of scary bush people and there is no town in our area
just a lot of spread out houses. The K-Beach ward is doing pretty
good, well not really but from where we are at we have nowhere to go
but up. My new companion is Elder Reynolds from Henderson. He was very
good at skateboarding but he hurt his back so he can't do that
anymore. But evidently he was super crazy on a skateboard.
We are pretty lost in the area, it's huge, and the roads and addresses
aren't very well marked or maintained, and a lot of people here don't
want to be found so that adds an interesting twist, if you get too far
from Soldotna then people are very unwelcoming, and we go a long ways
out of Soldotna. And it's breakup, the Alaska word for spring so a lot
of the roads are unpassable even in 4-wheel drive and even if they are
I really don't want to tear up those unwelcoming people's roads and
drive ways. We were able to get two new investigators this week. I
fell like one Richard really has some potential. We have our first
lesson with him on Friday.

General Conference was amazing, I really enjoyed it, I seem to like it
more as I get older.  I am so great fun to have the leadership we do
and the confidence and faith we have to bless our lives. I'm out of

Our district is great except the Zone leader that has been here a while holds everyone back. We don't see eye to eye and it's hard to humble myself to him because he is lazy and disobedient.
